We started by getting on the bus, and then riding it for the long trip to Cardigan. Once we arrived we saw the AMC lodge, solar panels, and the outlines of the mountains looming over us. We were introduced to the AMC guides, and then we played mountain baseball. Despite its name, mountain baseball seemingly had nothing to do with baseball, and involved throwing a bright red rubber lobster. After that we got sorted into our groups. We decided on our group name, Doofenshmirtz. Finally it was time to start hiking, our group was going to hike the back 80 trail, and we sang a camp song about the juice moose as we hiked, and also found a walking stick, which we dubbed the stickinator.
Occasionally we stopped to rest and to sketch, some of our sketches were special prompts or games. One of which was a sketch where we had to add a fairy or fairy house into our sketch in an almost fairytale-like area, this was also where we stopped to eat lunch. We also did a sketch where we partnered up and sat back to back, one of us was given an object and had to describe it to the other person to sketch. After some more hiking we made it to the cellar hole, where we encountered another group and shared riddles. The cellar hole is an example of
movement , and it shows that previously, there were humans living in the area, which was most likely farm land, due to the rock walls, but then the people left. They most likely left because the soil wasn't great for farmland, and either they tore down the rest of their houses or the elements did it for them. They also must have come here from a close town or village, and decided to claim the land and make it their own, and if there was a village at the time, they might have left because the area wasn't going to be great for farming, or, the villagers found a way to trade with surrounding towns and become a town centered around trade or craftsmanship instead of farming. Another example of movement are the streams and rivers that carry rain water from high in the mountains, all the way to the ocean. We then parted ways after a snack and a sketch, continuing our hike. We eventually hiked to a small marsh, where we sketched and played some games, such as camouflage and sardines. After this it was time to return to the lodge, and so the stickinator was placed in a tall log with some flowers, and then we started on our way back.We briefly stopped to play a tree auction game, and continued on. By this point it had started to rain, so people put on their raincoats and continued. We saw some indian cucumber, and ate some too, but we had some difficulty sketching it due to the rain. When we got back to the lodge the bus hadn't arrived yet, so we played sharks and minnows. When it did arrive, we hurried onto it. On the bus we learned Johnny whoop, but soon, we had arrived back at the school, and hopped off the bus to go home.
